Do not delay: USCIS processing times are not improving

USCIS processing delays are worsening again, and the newest data suggests the problem will not ease anytime soon. According to the American Immigration Council’s USCIS Immigration Filing Trends Dashboard, overall processing slowed significantly in fiscal year 2026.

This resulted in fewer cases completed, a growing backlog and rising denial rates. In other words, applicants are facing longer waits and a higher risk that mistakes or missing evidence could lead to a denial.

What the data says

The USCIS pending case backlog has reached a historic high. There were 11.3 million pending cases as of the first quarter of fiscal year 2026. This is a 16.5% increase from the previous year. Notably, USCIS received 33.6% fewer applications and completed 40.8% fewer cases compared to the same period in FY2025.

You and your family face unprecedented delays in receiving decisions on your applications and petitions. At the same time, denial rates are climbing, meaning that even after lengthy wait times, you face a greater risk of rejection.

Rising denials

If you have been feeling that the immigration process is becoming more challenging, you are not alone. Recent data confirms that the adjudication environment has changed significantly over the past year. Overall, denial rates for applications and petitions have climbed from 8.9% to 12.2%.

Beating the uncertainty

You can check estimated processing times through the USCIS government website. However, these estimates do not account for complications, requests for additional evidence or application errors. These may seem unimportant, but mistakes can add months (or even years) to your case.

For those who are currently in the US immigration system, it is important to stay knowledgeable and to check forms carefully. If you need help checking your family’s applications, working with a legal team experienced in immigration is critical. They help individuals like you and their loved ones navigate procedural hurdles effectively.

If you need assistance filling out forms accurately, avoiding common pitfalls and managing complications, consider seeking legal counsel for your specific situation.
